Five Reasons why you can’t Afford to Miss Public Speaking in 2019

Do you feel nervous or your palms sweat as soon as you hear the word “public speaking”? Don’t worry; you are not the only one. For many people out there, public speaking is the biggest fear, even surpassing fear of death and spiders. Known as Glossophobia, the fear of public speaking exists in 3 out of 4 people. Surprised, are you?

Nonetheless, it is like writing on the wall that at some point in the life or career, you will be required to stand up and speak in front of a group of people. Not only this, public speaking is a pre-requisite for any noteworthy career.

Public speaking empowers you to advance in the career and increase the visibility. Being a one-to-many activity, it is an incomparable trait which helps you stand out and impress the masses.

Today, our article highlights five reasons for improving public speaking and shows how it will play an indispensable role in shaping up the careers in 2019 and further years to come:

Making new relations

Public speaking can enable you to express freely and get familiar with strangers pretty easily. Once you make the audience smile or laugh even once, or connect with their emotions, you establish a rapport with them.

Also, participating in the speaking events and competitions facilitates you to meet others with similar interest.

Building leadership qualities

For being a successful leader, a person needs to be a good public speaker first. If you want people to follow and abide by your orders, you should have the power of presenting well and communicating clearly what the team members need to do.

Enhancing the critical thinking skills

While researching and preparing a script for the speech, a person has to undergo a significant amount of detailed thinking and investigation. Right from analysing the behaviour of the audience to the opening and closing of the speech, the speaker has to figure out a lot of aspects.  Also, while delivering the speech, you have to be on your toes to answer any difficult questions asked by the audience which also boosts the problem-solving ability.

Developing courage to state opinions and influence others (for good, surely!)

To make a positive impact on the listeners and influencing them for good benefits, you should have enough confidence to convey the opinion and to back it up with solid evidence and statistics. Continuous public speaking imparts the confidence and courage to express yourself freely and leave a long-lasting impact on the audience.

Developing better listening and reading skills

Good public speakers are always brilliant listeners because they observe the orator or the speaker and gain important learnings from him or her. Also, since public speaking involves huge research, it allows you to develop better reading skills to read more and select quality content to make an effective speech.
